Glaucoma

The Glaucoma Service at Xiamen Eye Center of Xiamen University consists of a team of 5 specialists offering comprehensive evaluation and treatment of glaucoma. The Eye Center has a series of sophisticated and state-of-the-art equipments for the assessment of glaucoma, including Humphrey and Octopus automated perimetry, HRT-III, HD-OCT, anterior segment OCT and UBM among others.

We use a comprehensive list of medications for glaucoma treatment, including those which are earliest available in the mainland China. Our glaucoma experts are specialized in the management of glaucoma with lasers, including laser peripheral iridotomy, iridoplasty, Argon laser trabeculoplasty (ALT), selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) and trans-scleral cyclophotocoagulation (TCP).

We perform more than 1000 glaucoma surgeries on paediatric and adult glaucomatous eyes per year, and the surgical techniques include goniotomy, trabeculectomy, non-penetrating filtration surgery, combined trabeculectomy and cataract surgery, drainage devices implantation, needling of failing blebs with anti-metabolites.

The glaucoma department also provides glaucoma patient education and counseling by organizing Glaucoma Patient Club activities regularly.
