Xiamen Eye Center, affiliated to Xiamen University, was established on Nov. 8, 1997. It is a Grade-A Tertiary hospital integrating medical treatment, teaching, scientific research, and blindness prevention. It is a national clinical specialty and a national drug clinical trial institution. It has a national post-doctoral scientific research station, an academician expert workstation, a national resident training base, and an Institute of Transformation Medicine, etc.

The hospital has a complete set of sub - specialties, including cataract, optometry, glaucoma, fundus diseases ( vitreoretinal diseases ), oblique amblyopia and pediatric ophthalmology, ocular surface and corneal diseases, ocular plastic surgery, and ocular trauma. It also has a medical optometry and optometry department and a clinical medical examination department. It has mastered all the core ophthalmic technologies at home and abroad and can carry out clinical diagnosis and treatment covering ophthalmic diseases.

The center has nearly 1,000 employees. Over the past few years, our hospital has continuously introduced domestic and foreign senior ophthalmologists. Eight sub-specialties have formed an academic echelon of old, middle, and young, with more than a dozen doctoral and master tutors. It has also specially engaged ophthalmologists from home and abroad to form an expert advisory group, providing reliable talent support for the further development of the discipline.

From 2014 to 2016, the center was successively ranked as the top 10 in the field of ophthalmology or the top 10 in academic influence " list of scientific and technological influence in Chinese hospitals" published by the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. In January 2017, it was named " 2016 National Model Hospital for Improving Medical Services" by the State Health Planning Commission.

The center has successively purchased international modern ophthalmic equipment from the United States, Germany, Switzerland, Japan and other places. Create a variety of new technologies and surgical methods, including full femtosecond myopic surgery, ICL implantation for high myopia, neonatal digital wide-area eye-bottom imaging system examination and fundus fluorescein angiography examination for newborns, application of Resight system and 27G ultra-minimally invasive vitrectomy technology to treat floaters, macular hole, vitreous hemorrhage, trifocal intraocular lens implantation, Non-Polar zoom intraocular lens implantation, femtosecond laser-assisted corneal transplantation and related component corneal transplantation.
