About Us

Xiamen Eye Center of Xiamen University was established in 1997. Main aiming is for serving Eye Care. After 10 years efforts it was recognized as a Tertiary Eye Hospital by local government and A National Key Specialty Hospital recognized by MOH, Xiamen Medical Center of Eye Diseases recognized by Xiamen Health Bureau in 2023 and Fujian Province Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology and Vision Science. The responsibility includes patients care, teaching, scientific research, and blindness prevention. It has been a teaching base for residency training, graduate training, and post-doctoral training.
 
The Eye Hospital is composed of eight specialties: including cataract, glaucoma, ocular fundus diseases (vitreoretinal diseases), strabismus, amblyopia and pediatric ophthalmology, ocular surface and corneal diseases, ocular plastic specialty, ocular trauma, and refractive surgery. The outpatients yearly is around 40,0000 and surgeries around 5,0000. 60% patients come out of Xiamen. The Eye Center set up a laboratory for testing aqueous and vitreous. More than 30 Clinical trials and IIT studies are running, also Gene therapies.
 
Since 2019 we undertake 10 programs of National Nature Foundation, 1 Key Program of Xiamen Health Bureau, 1 Key program form Xiamen Research Bureau. In recent 5 years we published SCI Papers 92 articles, 20 patents. As leading PI finished 9 Guidelines of certain eye diseases. Every year Eye Center puts close 20 million Yuan into research.
 
This year Xiamen Eye Center approved as teaching Hospital of Xiamen University again and Ophthalmology College is official opened that including 5 ophthalmology departments from 5 different local hospitals. Xiamen Eye Center will put 30 million Yuan pro year into the teaching and research.
